In the autumn, Palma rolls out the red carpet to welcome filmmakers and film lovers from all over the world in an international event that includes screenings, workshops and parties.
EMIFF is the most competitive international film festival and the one with the most growth in terms of participation in the Mediterranean. In 2019, it will be held for the eighth time in Palma —ten days of autumn during which documentaries, music videos, animation and experimental shorts by local filmmakers and other from the world over are presented. The audience is made up of producers, journalists, film enthusiasts and filmmakers, and in parallel to the screenings seminars and parties are organised to share the passion for film.
The settings for the projections are emblematic spaces in the city, like Teatro Principal, Cineciutat, Port Adriano or Es Baluard, and they take visitors on a no-baggage journey to discover new cultures, countries, people and relationships. The festival programme is meticulously designed to inspire and evoke the emotions that boost creation. There is a children’s film section with movies that combine animation, stop motion and narrative shorts. Inspiring and visually-dazzling musical videos are screened, the documentaries open up a window onto new ideas and the feature films and shorts are harsh and provocative. There is also a section devoted to made in Baleares productions and another dedicated to a guest country which changes every year.
An ideal event for independent filmmakers to rub shoulders with professionals from the industry, and a launching pad for new talents from all genres. EMIFF attracts more than 3,000 people from 30 countries and gives awards in several categories.
