Every September, in the global capital of electronic music, jazz enthusiasts – an unconditional audience – have an annual appointment in a unique setting for a summer concert: the bastion of Santa Llúcia, on the city walls of Dalt Vila. And it is no ordinary date, because the Ibiza Jazz Festival, which turns 31 in 2019, has become an important event for lovers of this genre, enabling them to discover the new talents of the island and national scenes and enjoy memorable sessions by consecrated figures. ‘Eivissa Jazz’ (the name by which it is known on the island) has borne witness to some vibrant, unforgettable performances: Didier Lockwood, The Blues Brothers Band, Tete Montoliu, Phil Woods, Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner and Branford Marsalis, among others, are just some of the big stars who have made their mark on the festival, the emotional sustenance of which resides in the enthusiasm of an audience that celebrates every performance as an extraordinary event.

Last year’s festival showcased saxophonist Muriel Grossmann, guitarist Pere Arguimbau, harmonica player Antonio Serrano or the warm voice of Silvia Pérez Cruz, not to forget the eagerly-awaited performance of Ibiza Jazz Experience, the band led by Abe Rábade, alma mater of the festival, with musicians who come together exclusively for this occasion. The swinging of ‘Eivissa Jazz’ infects the streets of the town centre too, with performances on different stages and marching bands to accompany a town devoted to jazz for an entire week.
