The spiritual and cultural heart of Mallorca can be found in this sanctuary surrounded by pine and holm-oak groves. Originating in the 13th century, it now has an inn and restaurants, and makes an ideal base for embarking on splendid excursions that run along the so-called Ruta de la Pedra en Sec, or dry stone route, a long-distance trail that allows one to penetrate high-mountain scenery.
Near the sanctuary lies the Museum of —which contains some valuable artistic heritage—, a Botanical Garden with indigenous species, an Interpretation Centre of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range and what are known as Porxets, former spaces designed to house the pilgrims who came to Lluc on their horses, no converted into family quarters. Every day the basilica is the venue for a performance by the Blauets, the famous cathedral choir of Lluc.
