Fundació Antoni Tàpies is housed in the one-time headquarters of the publishing house Editorial Montaner y Simón, designed by the Catalan Modernista architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. This building, which dates from 1880-1885, is one of the foremost examples of the architectural and urban renewal of the Modernista Barcelona. The splendid face brick façade is topped by the sculpture "Cloud and Chair", made by Antoni Tàpies in 1990 and now an emblematic feature of the foundation and the city itself.
