The construction of Barcelona's cathedral began in 1298 and the cloister began to be built in the 14th century. The Chapter-house, which is now the Capilla (chapel) del Santo Cristo de Lepanto, is perhaps the ensemble of greatest value in the Cathedral. It is covered by a starry dome. The Chapel of Santa Llúcia, a transitional Romanesque church built shortly before the construction of the Cathedral began, is now found on one side of the Cathedral, forming an integral part of it. The building's spectacular façade is in the Neo-Gothic style and its construction dates from the end of the 19th century. The cloister should not be missed. It stands out for the dense vegetation of its garden, its basin and its fountain.
