On September the Nit de l’Art (Night of Art) opens Palma’s artistic season. A night of art shared by creators, gallery owners and the public.

The Nit de l’Art, or Night of Art, is the Mallorcan version of the traditional Nuit Blanche held in many cities around the world. For one night, galleries and museums join forces and pool their creativity to welcome a new artistic season, transforming the historic city centre of Palma into a route full of surprises for art lovers.

The idea came from a group of gallery owners who wanted to share their enthusiasm for the start of the season with collectors and the public. Since then, the annual affair has gradually grown to become one of the most important events on the social calendar: on this night, around 15,000 visitors stroll through the pedestrian streets of Palma’s historic centre to attend exhibitions, installations, urban interventions and performances premiered for the occasion.

The Night of Art is a project organised by the Art Palma Contemporani Association and the Independent Art Galleries’ Association of the Balearic Islands. Surprise forms part of its attraction, and although a guide is published with the list of participating galleries and museums, nobody knows exactly what events will be presented during the evening until a few days before the night itself – and in some cases, until a few hours beforehand.

In addition to galleries and museums, all of the professionals who form part of Mallorca’s artistic community present their work in exhibition rooms and alternative spaces. A veritable in which people from all walks of life enjoy a city touched by the magic wand of art.
