Tradition and shows share the limelight in the celebrations for Santa María de las Nieves and San Ciriaco.
On 8th August, at midnight, a flood of residents and tourists invade the area around the port of the island’s capital to contemplate the spectacular firework castle with which the patron saints’ festivals of Ibiza/Eivissa culminate.
This is the most popular night of the summer and the cherry on top of a schedule of activities that combines history and traditions with modern shows and concerts for two weeks. The celebrations for the ‘Festes de la Terra’ begin on 5th August, the festival of Santa María de las Nieves, patron saint of Eivissa and Formentera. On the 8th, San Ciriaco, the day of the patron saint of the town, the conquest of the island by the Christian Catalan troops in 1235 is commemorated. That same afternoon, on the nearby Puig des Molins, one can try typical Ibizan products in the ‘berenada’ (high tea), accompanied by music and games.
