In May, International Museum Day is celebrated and the city of Barcelona joins the celebration by opening its cultural centres at night on May 14.
The museums in Barcelona and its surroundings are open many days of the year, of course, but one day is very special: the Night of Museums (La Nit dels Museus). On the occasion of International Museum Day, over 70 cultural centres of the Catalan capital are open to the public at night.
Everyone is invited to enjoy a unique experience in the city between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. Museums like CCCB, MACBA and the Miró Foundation are joined by historic buildings like the Aigües del Besòs building and the splendid new facilities of the Museum of Design.
And not only do these institutions stay open: they also host side events like concerts, workshops, performances and guided tours. It’s a celebration of the Barcelona night for the whole family.
