Culinary tourism is travelling more and more to the Catalan capital to enjoy its celebrated food and cooking.
It’s no wonder. The best chefs and restaurants are to be found in the city and its surroundings, with their always enticing dishes and surprising novelties. Since it’s difficult to try everything, however, the gastronomy fairs make it easier to taste a broad range of interesting foods.
In June, the event Tast a la Rambla (Tasting on the Ramblas) is the ideal occasion to get a first-hand acquaintance with everything the Catalan chefs have to offer. It is held precisely on the Ramblas of Barcelona and it features the participation of a large number of establishments. Thanks to its offering of ‘tapas’ at popular prices, it helps to make the restaurants’ creations known to the general public. What’s more, it’s a celebration in which local still and sparkling wines play an important role, with a background of musical performances.
Mercat de Mercats (Market of Markets) is another event which is based on the same format, but it is held in October. For a three days, the square called Plaça de la Catedral becomes a focus of delightful fragrances and tastes because the best products of the local market halls are on display there to present their quality. You can also enjoy excellent ‘tapas’ prepared by some of Catalonia’s great chefs and taste the best wines at the various stalls which are on hand for the occasion. This is a highly imaginative event in which everyone gets the chance to try the city’s great ‘tapas’.
