Torre Agbar
Civil architecture

Erected on the occasion of the International Forum of Cultures 2004, the Torre (tower) Agbar, owned by the water company Aguas de Barcelona, is an enormous prism-shaped building with 39,000 sq.m of floor space and a height of 142 metres. It is basically made of two materials with seemingly contrasting qualities: concrete, which lends it solidity, and glass, which gives the ensemble an impression of lightness when seen from outside. This skyscraper has been designed in the shape of two non-concentric cylinders on an oval plan up to the 26th story, crowned by a glass and steel dome. Six lifts run along the exterior wall, giving users a splendid view of the city. The skin of the building is made of coloured aluminium panels covering a surface of 16,000 square metres.
