A stroll in Barcelona is an outright temptation for ‘shopaholics’. The most exclusive luxury items are to be found in this city, which has absolutely nothing to envy any other place in the world. Neither New York’s Fifth Avenue nor Paris’s Champs-Élysées can put Passeig de Gràcia , Barcelona’s Golden Mile, in the shade. In fact, the prestigious jewellery shops and fashion boutiques on this avenue account for 29% of all the luxury sales made in Spain.

Emblematic buildings like the Casa Batlló and La Pedrera stand side by side with the big luxury stores on Passeig de Gràcia: these are the establishments of the biggest names in international fashion: Valentino, Prada, Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton... And a must for any visitor here is Santa Eulalia, a shop that opened its doors in 1843 and immediately became a flagship of Barcelona haute couture. Now, in addition to tailor-made garments, it offers such labels as Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, Carven, Isabel Marant, Christian Louboutin and Kenzo.

Other areas that luxury shoppers shouldn’t miss are the city centre and the Gothic Quarter, where local premium establishments carry superb craft products Made in Barcelona. At Portal de l’Àngel and Portaferrissa there are numerous fashion shops for both men and women, and the luxurious Maremagnum shopping centre has wonderful views of the Mediterranean in addition to fabulous fashion. Other deluxe shopping centres are Pedralbes Center and L’Illa Diagonal.

At the past edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion, Antonio Miró and Oscarleon stole the limelight on sharing the prize for the Best Autumn-Winter Collection 2017-18. Antonio Miró has been the ambassador of Barcelona men’s fashion in recent decades. For his part, Oscarleon boldly designs women’s fashion, with loose-fitting casual garments and print T-shirts.

Other acclaimed Catalan designers include Lola Casademunt, Justicia Ruano and the late Sita Murt, who passed away in 2014 although her spirit goes on living in the magnificent fashion of the firm that bears her name.

Textil past
Barcelona is proud  of its glorious textile past. Not only do luxury fashion shops abound here, but there are also many excellent ateliers where designers of international prestige work to the highest standards of quality. One such designer is Josep Abril, a standard-bearer of Catalan men’s fashion and a winner of the 080 Barcelona Fashion prize for the Best Collection. Creativity and commerciality go hand in hand in his creations, experimenting with fabrics, black, and overlaid garments.
