Catalan cuisine has been attracting the attention of people worldwide for years and it has now received the acknowledgement it deserves.
  • Carme Ruscalleda, Ambassador of Catalan Cuisine. Catalonia’s having been designated the European Region of Gastronomy 2016.

The wealth of experiences that is represented by our cuisine have made it a culinary model to be followed and a gastronomic icon. This fact is confirmed by Catalonia’s having been designated the European Region of Gastronomy 2016, an honour conceived to highlight and promote the European regions which actively contribute to the improvement of people’s quality of life.

This designation also seeks to foster awareness of the importance of wholesome, sustainable foods, and to foster gastronomic innovation, which are hallmarks of Catalan cuisine. As the European Region of Gastronomy, Catalonia aims to highlight its local products and cooking, positioning itself as a quality wining and dining tourism destination.

Carme Ruscalleda, the chef of the restaurant Sant Pau with its three Michelin stars, has been appointed Ambassador of Catalan Cuisine. Ruscalleda says that Catalonia is full of opportunities because creativity is in its DNA and because the region is the heir to a culinary culture reaching far back in time, a culture that should be upheld with talent and quality.
